The first thing to be done is to put the gear in the neutral so that it is safe till the work is completed. Also use the car's parking brake to put it in stationary position. The gear is kept neutral so that the console can be removed with no problems.
Get into your car. Make sure your car's gear system is in neutral position. The engine is turned off and hand brake is applied. Parking brake is the other name of the hand brake. The negative terminal of the car's battery is disconnected. The gear shifting knob is twisted counter clock wise direction and the knob is removed carefully.
