★★★★4/5
Print speed with this HP LaserJet 1320 toner cartridge comes in at a very nice 22 pages in a minute. Outside observers say it normally will chug along at about 17.5 pages in a minute, which is still a very nice rate when one considers what the printer will go for. From the time it's been tasked with the job until the time it can put out the first page is only 8 seconds, which is exceptional for a machine intended for a very small workgroup or office.
This LaserJet is also a fairly compact machine and looks to have been designed to fit easily on a desktop area, although it can be set off in its own area to act as a network printer if that's what will be required. Networking capability is an option, though, and doesn't come standard with the regular 1320, which is made in standard configuration to connect to a single PC or Mac.
Probably the single most notable keyword for this HP printer is "versatility." It does deliver wireless capability with the addition of a certain option, though the regular 1320 is made to be connected to a PC or Mac or a network through a parallel port or a USB port, both of which this device comes equipped with. If going for the wireless version, one will be getting a very nice 802.11g-standard unit. Prices will be slightly higher though.
For anyone out there looking for high-quality printing, the 1320 seems to have been designed by Hewlett-Packard specifically to hit that mark. It will deliver high-quality print jobs via means of its 1,200 dpi resolution. Specifically, clearness and sharpness is first rate across the board and it maintains that clearness as font size shrinks right down to nearly 3 point perspective.
It's a bit surprising that a machine in this price range and which is intended for the kinds of duties HP obviously meant for it to carry out would have two-sided print capability, but the LaserJet 1320 indeed features it. It's also quiet while it does so, which isn't always the case for printers in this segment equipped with duplex functionality. This HP printer has a number of different font sizes that a user can take advantage of, as well.
Memory comes in at 16 MB that can be upgraded to 44 MB, though it's usually not the case that it'll require an upgrade. The 1320 can operate using many different Mac or Windows operating systems, as well. There's an optional networking capability that can be included in an upgraded model for a price, so keep that in mind.
The competent and capable HP compatible toners also can store 500 sheets of paper within its included auto load input tray, as well as being able to print out product onto just about any standard media stock around. That it does all this for as little as $150 (some outlets charge as much as $400, though) is a pleasant fact. Given that it is durable (at 10,000 pages per month), it's fair to say that 1320 offers a lot of upside and almost no downside.
