Very few standard printers are designed to handle true mass production, but the HP LaserJet 8150 printer is an exception to that rule. Businesses with high-yield printing needs should evaluate this printer's potential and the performance provided by the 8150 toner cartridge. This article will discuss the specifications and uses for this printer in an effort to assist the consumer in that evaluation.

Packing a strong 250 MHz processor and 32 MB of system memory, even the factory settings carry enough performance power to quickly handle large or multifaceted tasks. HP FastRes 1200 technology allows for high-quality 1200 dpi printing without the network congestion usually associated with such tasks. A surprising 32 page per minute engine tackles lengthy projects with ease, and the printer itself is designed to handle a hefty 150,000-page workload every month without complications.

If this was just a standard printer, keeping it supplied so that it does not run out of paper would be difficult. However, the HP 8150 starts out with a 1,100 page capacity tray that is upgradeable to 3,100 pages. Even the output receiver capacity can be upgraded from the standard 600 page to be able to hold 3,600 pages. A stacker attachment and a 3,000 sheet stapler make it very easy to produce and organize any office project. The machine works best with 8150 toner cartridges.

"The 8150 is not a small printer. It measures at 29.5"" on each side. It weighs in at a hefty 112 pounds which really makes it not suitable to be a desktop printer. It was designed with high traffic in mind, so the best place to set this printer would be directly on the floor. Even a low stable table would be a good idea for easy access."

The standard connectivity package for the 8150 is based around the HP Jetdirect EIO internal print server, a Fast Ethernet option for easy networking, as the printer can be connected directly to the router rather than through an office computer. In addition, two open EIO slots allow for expanded networking options, and an included IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel port permits backwards compatibility with singular machines. Through the purchase of an optional wireless print server, networking cables can be eliminated entirely, allowing freedom in printer location and increased mobility.

With a retail purchase of the 8150, there are available options and upgrades. First, the printer will receive a one year onsite warranty. Included in the package are all of the necessary cables, a 20,000-page print cartridge, a complete User's Guide, installation and driver files, a full suite of complementary printing software on CD-ROM, and a support information packet. You will even have the options such as expandable memory, a 3.2 GB hard drive, and LANfax licensing.

Taking into consideration the wide array of resources and benefits to the 8150, its price is more than reasonable. Retail packages hover around the $500 mark. A bargain shopper can seek a refurbished model at a discount, often paying less than $300. Either way, given the performance and potential of this machine, the price is more than fair.

Even though it does not come with many specializations, the output capacity and speed of which it prints at allows it to be highly beneficial for large office projects. It was not designed for at home usage, but the HP LaserJet 8150 printer remains a contender in the business market. If you have high output printing needs that have to be done in a timely manner, this printer just might be the one you need.
