Alopecia hair loss is something that affects mostly men in their older years. However it can happen to either gender at any time for myriad reasons. Alopecia is the umbrella term for any kind of unwanted hair loss. It does not apply to people who are bald by choice or by their own doing. It can be horribly embarrassing to many people and most try different tactics to keep their hair.

Male pattern baldness is the most common and also the most incurable. It is a genetic problem passed down from the men in your family before you. As you get older, your hair becomes weaker, thinner, and more prone to falling out. It will never grow back.

It can sometimes be a side effect of medications or be due to stress. The important thing is to talk to your doctor about why you may be suffering from it and what can be done.

Most men take baldness as just another part of getting older. Some men try to fight it by building their hair around the problem in a comb over. If you are balding, combing a few hairs over the problem will not trick anyone. It is better for your own emotional health to just admit that you are going bald and try to find better solutions if it bothers you that much.

One such better solution is buying a toupee. The quality of toupees has gotten much better over recent years. Buying one made of real hair that very closely matches your own is a great way to keep it clean and to trick others. Make sure you can put it on right so it does not blow off in the wind! Another option--a permanent one--is to get hair implants. A doctor can take a live follicle and put it on your head so hair will grow naturally there. It is not cheap, though.

Other treatments include medical creams or stimulation to get your follicles growing again. Some of these work, some do not. Take recommendations from your doctor and then do research on your own. What works for one person will not work for all.
