In case you haven't noticed, there are more Film Clips & reviews of top indie movies on the internet than there are reviews and clips from the major studios. Really, this should come as no surprise, because there are more of these films than there are mainstream films. That, combined with the fact that it costs almost nothing to promote an indie film makes the internet the perfect venue for marketing these low budget films.

Indie films are not always as "low budget" as we would like to believe. Hollywood found a loophole that allowed it to tap into the sentimental attraction of indie films many years ago.

The technical definition of an independent film is that it does not get more than 50% of its funding from one of the major motion picture makers. Only the internet has made it possible for truly independent filmmakers with no outside funding to market their productions. They barely could raise the money to make their films, much less market and promote them.

Now these impecunious independent filmmakers can compete with the giants, thanks to online reviews and clips. Those indie film makers with a big budget have to rely on the same review sites that the "little guys" do for exposure. That serves to level the playing field considerably.

A big part of the enormous appeal of indie films is that the makers of these films are outside the Hollywood loop. There's a freshness and originality that comes with a low budget production that just can't be faked. The market for these films is huge and fans by the millions go to the indie review websites to see what's hot. If they suspect that Hollywood money is behind the project, they don't even give it a look.

That's not to say that indie films are always better than Hollywood films. Many of them are truly terrible. But because of film clips and reviews of top indie films, cash starved but truly talented film makers now have a chance to reach a wide and appreciative audience. The best of them are now finding that they can make a living doing what they love the most.
