Running a blog and getting it to make a profit are two different things. There are certain things that you should do with your blog if you want it to be successful, no matter what niche you are in.

Don't Stop at Selling Ads: The first thing people think of when they start a blog is how they can earn money through the selling of ads, which are usually viewed as the best form of monetization for blogs (a falsehood). The real truth is that selling ads might seem like the easiest way to earn money but it is absolutely not the only method for doing it. There is also the selling of your own and affiliate products which can net you more earnings than advertising. Advertising only works if your blog is already very popular, until it gets there you will earn more money by focusing your attention elsewhere. Finding affiliate products and selling your own stuff isn't that hard. Once you start to think out of the box, you can come up with a number of ways to monetize your blog along with having ads on it.

Shared Hosting Isn't Worth it: When you start a blog, you obviously have no idea how it's going to fair in the long run; if it grows big then shared hosting wouldn't work too well for you. To prevent exposure to hackers because of numerous security holes, slow download times and downtime, it would be wise to move your blog from a shared hosting plan to a dedicated server In the beginning, if you lack the funds, start with shared hosting, but once you start bringing in considerable income from you blog, it would be wise to move to a dedicated server. While this may not seem like a big issue to many, it sure does make a difference to the performance of your blog.

Create a Community: Building a community around your blog is just as important as providing excellent content and promoting your blog effectively. Let's face it; a successful blog is all about relationships that you create with your readers, and without having a community your blog will only be a website with some content on. You will be more motivated by your community and will provide better content thanks to their feedback and comments. And if your blog is great then you will also get a little word of mouth advertising. So, you should be focused on engaging your audience as much as you can by publishing interactive content like surveys and polls. You need to interact with your audience as often as possible and you can use Facebook, Twitter or other social platforms to grow your community. Tons of blogs are abandoned every minute; only a few blogs truly find success. If you want your blog to be very successful make sure you apply what you've learned by reading this article.
