Baseball is not the only sport where safety must be priority one but it is the one we'll discuss here. Many players, coaches and parents will underestimate the degree of danger posed with playing baseball. Compared with baseball, other more dangerous sports take more precaution in the way of protective gear than baseball does. Safety is certainly something to keep in mind here as well since bats are heavy and balls fly fast.

First of all, coaches should be aware of any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries players may have. If an injury hasn't healed it's not a good idea for a player to continue to play. Of course any injury that happens while playing should be immediately checked out. because of the fact that your players don't want to be in the dugouts during a game they won't often tell you when they are hurt so you as a coach must make the call. Most usually a sprained ankle or shoulder injury is only exacerbated by continuing to play.

A baseball bat can pose a danger to players, and bats must be used with caution. That's why there should be strict rules about swinging bats. A good rule to follow is no swinging bats during games unless you're the hitter or on deck. It should be a strict rule that players stay safely away from any player holding a bat. If someone feels like practicing with a bat, it's essential to always make sure there's enough space and no one is too close. Bats should always be treated with respect, both by the person holding or swinging one and other players, who need to keep their distance.

In any sport, the right footwear is extremely important, and this holds true for baseball as well.

Players should have cleated baseball shoes, not cheap or worn out sneakers. Whether you're playing the infield or outfield, or sliding into a base, your shoes can make a real difference. You can't always predict how the ground will be, as you may play at home one day and away the next, or on a muddy field one day and a dry one the next. Many accidents, sprains and other injuries can be prevented by wearing high quality athletic shoes. Since footwear that's highly specialized is easy to find today, it's best to get baseball shoes if that's your sport.

Baseball safety, then, is not complicated, but if everyone remembers the basic principles, accidents can be greatly reduced. Baseball is a little deceptive in some ways, as you may be able to get away with being careless for a while, but at some point a serious injury can occur if the right gear isn't worn or safety rules are ignored. That's why it's important that coaches and others supervising a game keep close watch on the field and players to make sure everyone is staying safe.
