Since April of 2008, Turkish Airlines has had a membership with the Star Alliance network of airlines. The airlines have in excess of fifteen thousand employees and are headquartered in Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul Turkey. Turkish Airlines has received plenty of prestige awards within the past few years. One such form of recognition, given by Skytrax, is for offering the highest quality of Economy Class flight food services in the world. In addition, the airline was tagged as Europe's fastest growing airline. Because of the number of years in a row that their profits have continued to grow, this honor should not amaze anyone.

Spain's Valencia is the newest addition to the long list of routes operated by Turkish Airlines and there will be four weekly flights to this destination. Then the following month, April, routine weekly flights will begin for the Malaga (Spain) to Istanbul route. There will be three flights per week on this route. Turkish Airlines already flies to Madrid and Barcelona and these are simply additions. Turkish Airlines will have a pretty full year, judging according to the plans they have disclosed, and this is just the beginning. 2011 will witness a significant route expansion with many new destinations joining the list. A number of flights to France are being planned for the summer of 2011, with destinations such as Toulouse, Paris, Nice and Lyon. With these additions, the airline will have 175 destinations in its offering, even though the year is still at the beginning.

The profitability of Turkish Airlines was impressive in 2010, with financial statements showing they attained a nine-month net profit of 169 million USD. The company's overall revenue from sales grew substantially to 5 billion USD, or by 39%. Turkish Airlines is also looking to add a fleet of long-haul planes, namely Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, to further increase their business class revenues. There are also plans to open international cargo routes with wide-body planes. While a surprise, the results posted by Turkish Airlines were very well received, as is to be expected. This surge could also be due to the fact that the company has been actively marketing their brand all over the world. Asian expansion and penetration into the US market is what the company is planning on.

Turkish Airlines has implemented a new form of traveling referred to as Comfort Class. This is a style of travel that is only available on the airline's fleet of Boeing 777s. With seats that are just under 46 inches, this makes it a completely new approach to flying in style. Thus, you can either relax in four feet of seat or have plenty of space for anything else you have with you. Remember though, that the Boeing 777 is a large aircraft designed mainly for intercontinental flights. If you are a Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles card owner, then you can convert any miles you have accrued into a seat in Comfort Class. While Turkish Airlines does have quite a bit of a history, their start was quite rocky. There are so many challenges airlines have to resolve that this is not surprising. All levels of this airline company have been subjected to changes. This is a company that has clearly learned its lessons and will not repeat the same mistakes, transforming into a strong company that can easily adapt to the environment. This has been a very small peek into what seems to be eventful and exciting times at Turkish Airlines.
